With the rapid development of modern economy and society, the demand for power supply is increasing rapidly, and the requirement for power supply quality and reliability are getting higher and higher. Distribution grid is the interaction between power system and user. It plays a very important role in ensuring the quality of power supply and improving energy utilization. It is also a key link for the user experiencing the electricity service. The power supply will be affected if the fault of distribution grid occurs. As a result normal operation of social production will be destroyed, which can be a huge loss. Therefore it is an important research content for smart distribution grid that how to locate the fault point and restore the power supply after the fault occurs.This paper mainly includes the following parts:Firstly, the online monitoring system of distribution gird is introduced, including the system structure and communication network. The detection principle of interphase short circuit fault and single phase to earth fault are also analyzed. This provides software/hardware support for fault location in distribution grid.Secondly, fault location algorithm of smart distribution grid is studied. The fitness function and switching function, which can dynamically adapt itself to the change caused by switching of distributed generation, are constructed. The multiple-population genetic algorithm for fault-section location of distribution grid containing distributed generation is proposed. It can avoid the premature convergence of standard genetic algorithm. The proposed algorithm has been verified by a numerical example.Finally, fault restoration and reconfiguration algorithm of smart distribution grid is studied. The power supply recovery model and the fault recovery algorithm of the distribution gird, which contains distributed generation supply are established. And the effectiveness of the algorithm has been verified by simulation of IEEE33 node distribution network system.
