Today, with the rapid development of economy, the automatic escalator has become one of the important public facilities. Worm gearing is the most common drive equipment of the escalator, especially ZC1 worm gearing which has some unique merits and has been made by many escalator manufacturers. ZC1 worm gearing used by escalator is one of circular cylindrical worm. It’s better than ordinary cylindrical worm in terms of performance. So it has some practical meaning for studying ZC1 worm gearing. To make ZC1 worm gearing has all advantages, it is important to choose parameters reasonably. So the main research content of this paper is parameter analysis and optimization design and the main research as follows:Based on the theories of the space meshing, establish the mathematical model of the first envelope and the second envelope, and get coordinate transformation matrix, grinding wheel tooth surface equation, meshing equation of grinding wheel and worm, worm tooth surface equation, meshing equation of worm and worm wheel, worm wheel tooth surface instantaneous contact line equation and so on. Besides these, to deduce root cutting limit line formula, meshing limit line formula, tooth surface contact parameter formula, addendum thickness formula of worm gear and worm for the parameter analysis and optimization design.Analyze the impact of main parameters on geometry features and meshing performance. Geometry features refer to addendum thickness of worm and gear which must have a certain thickness to prevent tooth broken in the messing process. Meshing performance including contact performance and lubrication performance, mainly analyze worm wheel tooth surface instantaneous contact line and tooth surface contact parameter. Worm wheel tooth surface instantaneous contact line must distribute evenly without cross, the induced normal curvature and sliding coefficient should be as small as possible, lubrication angle and the angle between instantaneous contact line and resultant velocity should be as big as possible.To improve the meshing performance of ZC1 worm gearing,selecting optimization variable, induced normal curvature and lubrication angle are selected as objective functions combining with the constraints about boundary, root cutting, addendum thickness of worm and worm wheel. The improved particle swarm algorithm is adopted as optimization algorithm. Look at tooth surface contact parameter and analyze the maximum tooth surface contact stress using finite element analysis software to judge the meshing performance.
