In recent years, with the application of seismic isolation technology more widely, speed-related dampers and displacement-associated dampers have been widely used in earthquake engineering. Although foreign countries already have many energy dissipation structure design, construction norms and regulations, The Chinese current Codes "Seismic Design of Buildings" (GB 50011-2010) and "Building Energy Dissipation Technical Specification" (JGJ 297-2013) also increased the energy dissipation design, construction, inspection and maintenance provisions and list some principled provisions about energy dissipation design on the basis of absorbing domestic and foreign relatively mature research results, but it is difficult to be grasped and applied in actual engineering practice for the general engineers.And the specific design issues of energy dissipation structure design have not been formulated in the codes, which makes the analysis and design of energy dissipation structures become more complicated and difficult. This paper studys the speed-related dampers and displacement-associated dampers systematically combining with finite element software ETABS and SAP2000 and proposes the practical design method for these two types of dampers so that the energy dissipation structures can be better applied in engineering practice.Firstly, the paper introduces the principle of energy consumption for the energy dissipation structures, and then details their structure and mechanical model from the angle of the speed-related dampers and displacement-associated dampers. Then, the paper studys in detail the specific analytical methods of energy dissipation structure based on the finite element software ETABS or SAP2000, and describes in detail the simulation methods of the energy dissipation structures and the dampers and the calculation methods of the energy dissipation structures to prove that using the finite element software ETABS or SAP2000 can complete the design and analysis of the energy dissipation structures.Finally, the paper proposes a set of design process that is simple, practical, and workable for the energy dissipation structures based on viscous dampers and metal shear seismic dampers. The paper proposes the specific plan of the damping target and the specific layout principles of the dampers for the energy dissipation structures, and studys the method which can improve the designed accuracy of the the energy dissipation structures based on the reinforcement of the the energy dissipation structures by counting and analyzing many actual projects on the base of this design process.The engineering background of this paper is very real, some of the quantitative and qualitative results obtained from the paper have many guiding significances for the design of the energy dissipation structures. I hope these advices and conclusions can hold some reference values for formulating the design guidelines of the energy dissipation structures.
