Analysis the misconceptions of the old city renotion to get at the source of the trouble and to find the best way for researching.Introduce "Activation"theory.Based on the study of two cases, This paper tries to analyze their adoptability in Nanjian Old Town Historic District by comparing with The taiping historical block protection planning and Revitalising Historic Buildings Through Partnership Scheme,Which can come up wth some key fators of viability renew on street space and activation of individual buildings. then it can find a frame of reference for the design update of Nanjian Old Town Historic District. Through the above two parts research, The paper has a deep research of the historic district in Nanjian Old Town.The study including two parts, geographical characteristics and lifestyle of Old Town residents. There are four fators, the main concept of the audience, street space, courtyard space, single building,which we can study from the inside to explore to get the design methods. Now,The targets and key elements of renew design are extremely established. The main targets of renew designt is the texture of courtyard and spatial pattern; activation objects are located in the Old City, Different designs for their different geographic location, usage, current situations.Combined with dmestic and international research,we try to fill the Historic District with new energy through from improving the enironment of the streets,perfecting the construction of infrastructureTirneshare, acticating the traditional dwellings.And we hope these researchs can make a contribute to futue studies.
