Garden city is one of the most important concept in urban planning to cope with the result of fast economic development of Britain. It was proposed to create a new town both have the benefit of urban places and countryside. There are also many theories which are the further development of Garden city. British New Town is one of the most significant results of Garden city theory whose purpose was to decentralize the extra urban population of London. Milton Keynes is the one of the largest towns of this project. China is in a fast urbanization process with a fast developing economy. Although China’s urbanization has many achievement, there are still many challenges and problems to cope with. Lakeside district is one of new developing part of Hefei which is the capital of Anhui Province in China. This paper tries to discuss to what extent the theory of Garden city and the principle of the distribution of public facilities in British New Town can be applied into the urbanization practice in China by comparing Milton Keynes and Lakeside district from the perspective of public facilities distribution. According to the research,there are major thre points which the planning of the Lakeside district could learn form it.First, the planning of the distribution of public facilities in Milton Keynes is balanced.It was based on the community and walking distance.Second, The planning of public facilities in Milton Keynes is open which means every facilities could serve more than one community.Third, the distribution of public facilities in Milton Keynes has considered an integrated walking system which would encourage people to walk.
