As one of the pillar industries, the construction industry has become an accident-prone industry. With hundreds of accidents and nearly thousands of casualties every year, construction safety has attracted more and more attention from the industry and academia. Yet construction safety accidents are still hard to get effective prevention on account of outdated management styles and complex construction environments.For the application of information technology in construction safety management is relatively less, this paper integrated BIM technology, positioning technology and communication technology to construction safety accident prevention. Based on the theory of the accident and the prevention mechanism, a prototype system for construction accident prevention was constructed.It is the unsafe acts and unsafe environment in construction that lead to construction accidents. This paper classified the unsafe acts into three: approaching dangerous areas, misusing protective equipment and violating regulations, with the information which was needed for warning of unsafe behavior based on BIM and positioning technology presented. The unsafe factors in construction environment were analyzed which would be identified and classified in the prototype system. The unsafe area caused by the unsafe environment factors would be defined with whose scope divided out.GPS technology and UWB positioning technology were compared and analyzed to meet the positioning requirements on site. A comprehensive positioning method combining GPS technology and UWB technology was introduced respectively for outdoor and indoor positioning on the construction site. Based on the unity software platform, the above mentioned two positioning technologies were integrated and the construction accident pre-warning system was established which includes four function modules for information collection, input, operation and output. After design of working mechanism for the system completed, the function modules were projected in detail, to be an organic whole for accident warning. A case study was used to describe the working process and its effectiveness.This paper adopted information technology for construction accident prevention with safety management level improved and construction safety accidents reduced. It is clear that the system has great potential in aiding construction site safety and reducing accidents for its new thought and method.
