In the market economy, increasingly intense competition entails a higher requirement on dump truck quality, cost control, and short producing period. In order to win competition in the market, Enterprises have adopted platform technology to raise design efficiency, shorten development cycle and accelerate new products to market. But now, with the increase of customer demand for personalized products of dump truck, dump truck product customization trend is more and more obvious. However, traditional dump truck design platform variability and flexibility is poor, single platform can only design a limited type of vehicle, and it is difficult to realize the customized design of the product in a short time according to the user’s individual needs. To these problems, the purpose of this paper is to establish assembly design platform of dump truck based on Pro/E software, modular technology, parametric design technology, top-down design technology of multi-skeleton model, automatic assembly technology, multiple physical parameters and data integration technology. The results show that this kind of design platform can achieve rapid assembly design of different levels, different forms of the digital prototype of dump truck.in the general layout design phase, it not only ensures the flexibility of the platform, saving the time of preliminary design of dump truck, but also improve the dump truck production enterprise’s overall design ability and design efficiency. By dealing with design platform of dump truck, it can meet requirements for product personalization of dump truck, and it can enable enterprises to enhance market adaptability and competitiveness. The main work of this paper is as follows.1) In order to solve the complex design process, the long design cycle, difficult post-modification and difficult to respond to market changes in the traditional mode of production, this paper introduced a modular design technology. And introduces several of its key technologies: module division, standardized modules, management modules and module combinations. Finally, the general principle of tipper module division is put forward, and provides technical support for the establishment of a dump truck assembly design platform.2) In order to solve the problem of the skeleton model building in the process of the top-down product design, this article has a multi-level skeleton model with a multi-functional skeleton model combines. Finally put forward a top-down design approach of multi-skeleton model. This method can realize the classification management and hierarchical control of design parameters by using the standard skeleton model, which can avoid the confusion and disorder of the reference relationship in the process of product design.3) Due to traditional construction method of digital model, parametric design technology is not used. It is unable to implement the variant design of the existing model. As a result, the repeated operation is frequent, which seriously affect the design efficiency of the product. In the end, this paper makes a further research on the parametric design technology, and combines the parametric design technology with the program to achieve parametric design method of program driving parameter and parameter driving model.4) In view of the traditional assembly design process fully rely on the designer himself planning assembly relations, manually add assembly constraints, this paper puts forward the automatic assembly method based on software secondary development. This method will solve the complexity of the manual assembly method, at the same time, through the analysis of Pro/E itself assembly method, based on second development of software of automatic assembly method and model based on skeleton assembly method and three dimensional reference constraint assembly method, the combination of which constitute a dump truck assembly design platform of automatic assembly module.5) The secondary exploration of Pro/E is carried out with the help of programming software, which is called Microsoft Visual Studio 2005(VS2005), and Pro/TOOLKIT, which is a secondary development tool. Then, the assembly design platform building of dump truck is finished.In the end, the fast query of similar models, the rapid division of the module, the parametric design of the skeleton model and the module and the automatic assembly of each module based on the skeleton model are realized.
