The modern architectural movement which have swept over the last century can be called as the most violent architecture revelution in the history of mankind. Architects were prompt to rethink after the fundamental change of the living environment which is caused by the rapid industrialization and urbanization. Traditional settlements which as human life living places created bya brilliant culture of mankind in the long history have istinctive architectural features of planning.In nowadays it is still worthy to be learning and imitation.In 1950 s and 1960 s, architects all around the world become concern about "Vernacular Settlement" and began to do some research about it.Japan which is one of the country which has get greatest achievements of modern architecture movement in Asia, has been concerned about its own culture after 1950 s. Also,it have concerned about regionalison and howto combine cultural history as well as traditional.At the same time,they consciously oppose the to design methods and principles of modernism, and devoted to promote the theory of practice.In this trend of the times, generations of Japanese architects through new perspective ideas and methods to research settlement buildings.This paper in the 1960 s, has the time axis as the clue, sorting their theory of the settlement space form and combining the research of the modern architectural practice, from Fumihiko Maki to Riken Yamamoto to Sou Fujimoto. On the one hand to explore how Japanese architects spontaneously understand the characteristics of settlement architecture reflected in their own creative practice, on the other hand, by comparing the difference of the research results, to reveal how to think about the evolution and innovation of architects in the settlement space under the background of different times.
