| Under the background of today’s sustainable building concept, earth architecture as a widely used building type, has attached much attention of research institutions from all over the world, especially from developed countries like the European and American, because of its high ecological value and geographical adaptability. They have made a breakthrough in the improvement and modernization of the applications of earth material and construction techniques, especially modern rammed earth construction technology. While in China, especially in the Northwest China, earth architecture has gradually become a symbol of poverty and dangerous house. Domestic research in the field of modern earth construction technology has just started, now in a point-like distribution state, lack of scientific research.In order to promote the research and application of earth architecture and advanced rammed construction technology, With the support of MOHURDã€CRAterre and Bridge to China Charitable Foundation,Xi’an University of Architecture & Technology began to carry out a lot of researchã€demonstration and promotion job of advanced rammed earth construction in Macha village,Gansu Province. The research team has initially formed a rammed earth construction technology system which is suitable for poor rural areas through a series of research trials and cross-regional construction projects. As China’s first advanced rammed earth construction technology demonstration site, Macha Village has shown its grate social impact and promotion value. In order to further the study and to explore the possibility and feasibility of modern application of rammed earth, we decided to build a "Macha village Center" for the whole villager, to provide a place where they can held different cultural activities and improve the infrastructure services at the same time.Therefore, how to build a "reasonable", sustainable and local village center based on the existing advanced rammed earth construction technology is the main point of this project. The study is the whole process of "Macha village center ",including the early researchã€strategy researchã€architecture designã€site-design and construction.The whole process of this project is an experimental attempt of the application of advanced rammed earth building technology system in poor rural areas in northwest China. Through this project,we know more about the diversity and ecological characteristics of performance results of rammed earth material and the design language of advanced rammed earth technology, which demonstrate the possibility of promotion and the feasibility of the application of rammed earth construction technology; Also we try to promote the local construction experience by excavation, testing and application, to explore the architectural design strategies and methods of poor rural areas in northwest China, at the same time, to explore ecologically sustainable mining potential of modern rammed earth architecture by the application of local traditional construction experience. |
