Studies On Regional Culture In Waterfront Landscape Design

Together with the urban construction upsurge, waterfront spaces are being increasingly explored, transformed and utilized, which, in turn, constantly enhances the historical value, cultural value, ecological value, and economic value of waterfront landscapes. Different regions have their own special geographical and cultural advantages. However, problems like lingering in the beginning stage of development and overemphasizing economic benefits prevent people from fully exploring the classical of high level, great quality and deep connotation. In the situation of lacking urban land and that every inch of the land is highly prized, how should we exhibit regional culture elements in waterfront landscape design; how should we maintain the localization features in the knowledge system of globalization; how should we survive naturally from the trend of big assimilation; how should we present the uniqueness in the tendency of regional convergence? These are not only about the defiance against cultural globalization, but also about the way of orderly survival of cultural diversity,which apparently has also become an important value orientation of current waterfront landscape design industry.This thesis is based on the regional culture theory and urban waterfront landscape theory. Firstly, it explains conceptions related to regional culture elements and urban waterfront landscape, and analyzes relative landscape that involves in waterfront landscape construction and the landscape features and components of urban waterfront in details. Besides, it concludes the existing limitations of urban waterfront in our country, and summaries the existing advantages of waterfront landscape in the regional culture by analyzing the domestic and overseas classical cases of waterfront landscapeconstruction and absorbing their successful experience. Finally, it proposes the applied strategies of regional culture utilized in waterfront landscape design and concludes the feasibility of waterfront landscape design that presents regional culture in practical and conventional mode by analyzing the dialectical relationship between regional culture and waterfront landscape.This thesis takes the case of Shenmu County, Shaanxi Province as an example for research and analysis. It emphasizes on the cross-synthesis of related subject fields such as urban waterfront landscape design and regional culture,and concludes that regional culture are the first priority for future urban waterfront landscape design and development. We should protect, inherit, develop and optimize the regional culture to improve the development of urban waterfront landscape planning and design.
