The clean energy generation has been developing rapidly in recent years. In order to achieve the integration of kinds of clean energy, the flexibility and compatibility of the power system have to be promoted. Therefore, building the smart grid is regarded as the inexorable trend of the power system development. And theintelligent substation is the most important basis and the key of the future smart grid.The background of this thesis is the construction of a 500kV substation in Liyang. Firstly, the present status of theconstruction of intelligent substations under IEC-61850 in China and abroad are summarized. And the characteristics of traditional substation and intelligent substation are compared. After that, the technicalfeatures and demands of the intelligent substations are proposed.Then, the studies are focused on thetechnical proposals of some key technical problems of the construction of intelligent substation, such as electronic transformer, condition monitoring of primary equipments, automation system and advanced application, separately gived a detailed explanation about the working principle and structural of active and passive electronic current transformer, the paper studied on the application of electronic current transformer of smart substations, the paper also makes a in-depth research on the technology of primary equipement condition monitoring,automation systems and advanced applications,to a certain extent,involved in smart substation construction.Besides,it also proposes practical applications.At last, the selection of the electronic transformer, the layout of the primary equipments, the selection of the measurement and control device, the scheme of data synchronization and the development plan of the advanced applications are studied successively for the Liyang 500kV intelligentsubstation. And all the implementation plans made in thisthesis have been adopted in the actual construction.The achievements of this thesis will be the reference of the construction of future intelligent substations.
