Construction of ecotype channel is the inevitable trend of future waterway engineering field. The ecology of waterway and influence on river ecology were studied mostly from the point of bank revetment in the past. However, as important parts of the waterway regulation project, spur dike, reef blasting and dredging engineering will also impact on river ecology. The main study contents and results are as follows:(1) The relationship between channel and river, river habitat environment and function, and the connotation of river ecological restoration are discussed, in order to provide theoretical basis for analyzing the impacts of waterway regulation projects on river ecology and putting forward ecological conservation and restoration measures.(2) The mechanism of the ecological effects of spur dike, reef blasting and dredging engineering on the river is analyzed. In the operating period, the ecological effect of spur dike on the river is mainly by changing the flow field distribution, water depth, riverbed scouring and silting, etc. of the reach, and then affecting a variety of habitat factors and biological factors. For reef blasting construction, the impact of shock wave on river creature and ecology is most serious. After the construction, disappearance of the reef habitat will be bad for the river ecological restoration. In dredging construction, the processes of dredging and dumping can kill creatures directly, and by disturbing the water and riverbed bottom substrate, the water is made muddy, and the sediment contamination is released. If the dredged spoil isn’t treated properly, it will also affect the river ecology.(3) Spur dike, reef blasting and dredging engineering examples are investigated for river ecological impacts. In the construction period, these three regulation engineering will all produce negative effects on river ecology, but the effect cycle is short, and by taking protective measures and with the aid of the self-restoring capacity of the river, the construction influences can be neglected. In the operating period, the ecological impact of spur dike on the river is more complex, depending on the degree of intervention on the river bed morphology of the regulated reach. In some cases, spur dike will produce positive effect, which can be used to improve river ecology.(4) The main influence factors of spur dike, reef blasting and dredging engineering on river ecology are analyzed. Qualitative or quantitative indexes are selected to respectively build the ecological protection and restoration index systems of spur dike, reef blasting and dredging engineering. These index systems can be used to provide guidance for the planning, design and construction of inland waterway regulation projects in Guangdong Province.(5) In view of the spur dike, reef blasting and dredging engineering, ecological conservation and restoration measures are put forward respectively from many points such as design, construction, restoration after construction, etc.
