Tunnel lighting accounts for a very small proportion of the cost in the tunnel con struction, but it plays an important role in the operation, and it is an important guarant ee to tunnel road traffic safety. Whether there is a car through, tunnel lighting lamps r emains open, even in the night. This phenomenon is more serious in the area of less tr affic. Because of the current tunnel lighting system, the high electricity bill brings to t he country and it caused unnecessary waste of resources. Furthermore, the control mo de of the existing tunnel lighting system does not have a good solution to the contradi ction between safety and energy saving. Therefore, trying to develope a new effective method of energy saving in the tunnel lighting system,which can provide real-time control of the lighting lamps based on the vehicle detection technology and the illuminace detection data outside the tunnel,as well as can satisfy the idea that when the cars come the lights turn on,the cars go and the lights turn off,is very important and indispensable to achieve the goal of energy saving in the tunnel lighting system.This paper analyzes the present situation of tunnel lighting system. Because of th e serious shortcoming of the current tunnel lighting, the lighting control system is des igned. Through research and analysis the requirements of the light source to tunnel, c hoose LED as the light source of the energy-saving lighting system. Using embedded technology and CAN bus technology which are mature development, and combined the illuminace detection data of the outside tunnel, the real-time dimming control of the LED light source can final realize.In the hardware design, this paper introduces the hardware of the tunnel lighting energy saving controller. Select the microcontroller which based on ARM architecture as the controller of the processor and then complete the design of different hardware modules. It is includes the light intensity detection module design, serial communicati on module design, LED driver module design, CAN port module design, data storage module design and power module design.In the software design, using real-time multitasking kernel μC/OS-II system as t he operating system and Keil software to edit the program of the controller, and introd uces the task-flow. While the desgin completed, the system was tested and debugging.According to the test, tunnel energy-saving lighting system was successful. Compare to the external luminance, the tunnel lighting can real time dimming also it can auto c ontrol the tunnel lights to start and stop according with the vehicle detection informati on. The results showed the design features have been achieved.
