China has the longest course of expressways over the world. In order to make sure a smooth, high-speed and comfortable driving condition on the highway, the bituminous mixture is a common material applied in the bituminous pavement. Although there exist many advantages in the bituminous mixture, wheel rutting is easily to form on a large angular climbing section which bears a heavy load under the high temperature, and thus requires a largescale maintenance of the road surface in a short period. Given the serious damages from ruts on the bituminous pavements of climbing sections of the expressways in mountain areas, targeted researches on the application of bituminous mixture to the expressways in the mountain areas and hilly lands so as to address the wheel rutting problems. This research through measures including on-site research, theoretical analysis and experiments gives an analysis to the key technology applied in the construction of bituminous pavements of long-distance upward slops sections. A series of methods and measures including material design of the bituminous pavement, structural design, construction quality control is put forward to thoroughly solve or effectively control the wheel rutting problems of the longdistance upward slopes. It provides material basis for building and designing the expressway pavement in mountain areas and hilly lands.According to the objective of the project study, with the combination of the research result on the optimum design of the bituminous mixture, in this paper, the author maps out the plan for the application of material to the trial pavement section, adopts the PR.PLAST.S from France to blend and modify the performance of asphalt so as to improve the anti-rutting performance of the bituminous pavement on the long-distance upward slop sections. In accordance to analysis, any scheme of designing the bituminous pavement of the long-distance upward slopes that adopts this result result has achieved a success, which further testifies it is a excellent plan worth introducing and promoting.
