Nowadays, people travel to by traffic on the increasingly high degree. During the peak period, more vehicles will lead to the pedestrian waiting a long time. Because of the pedestrian don’t want to wait a long time, so they ran a red light. This will lead to the impact of their own safety. At the same time the vehicle will be interrupted.Therefore, to improve the efficiency of pedestrian travel is very important. In this paper, the system is proposes to determine the change of signal lamp based on the time and quantity of pedestrians. The system not only ensures the safety of pedestrians, but also reduces the interference of pedestrian red light on the vehicle.Firstly, this paper introduces the concept of traffic signal control, classification, the function and structure. The adaptive signal control system based on the analysis of pedestrian and the flow chart of algorithm. Based on Pedestrian detection algorithm of background subtraction, the number of waiting time and the signal timing scheme are established according to the number of waiting lines and waiting time. We are setting up waiting for pedestrians to cross the street scene in 3DS Max. To verify the effectiveness of the algorithm in MATLAB. We analyzed the pedestrian time-consuming and shooting accuracy. Finally,investigate Xi’an Cuihua Road Primary School of Greenwood Road to verify. In the VISSIM simulation software to verify the adaptive traffic signal control system. Through the field investigation, we carried out to study the effects of Greenwood Road Primary School in front of the traffic and the number of people. According to the analysis, using the VISSIM with the road simulation, we compared no signal control, signal control and adaptive control, the queuing length and delay time are analyzed. In order to improve the efficiency of pedestrian travel.It is concludes that the adaptive signal control is the best method which is of great significance to improve the efficiency of pedestrian traffic.
