Interference between pedestrians and motor vehicles is always a difficult problem to traffic control and management. Under the situation that a volatile flow of motor vehicle and pedestrian presenting in some long roads, pedestrian crossing timing control will lead to large loss of phase. If the inductive control is put into practice according to the real-time change of motor vehicle and pedestrian flow and release time is given flexibly for both, it can reduce the delay and pedestrian’s avoidance rate. Based on the existing inductive control mode, integrating the demand of pedestrians into the control system, for the biggest benefit of motor vehicles and pedestrians, this paper puts forward inductive signal control algorithms of mid-block crosswalks suitable for the transportation characteristics.Firstly, by investigating locally and collecting data of signal control mid-block crosswalks, pedestrian’s behavior characteristics, pedestrians and motor vehicles traffic flow characteristics under inductive control were analyzed respectively on the existing inductive control theory, which provides theoretical basis for the inductive control algorithm research.Secondly, to solve the current problems of the inductive control pedestrian crosswalks, this paper combines the basic principle of inductive control and the theory of signals timing while crossing, with the goal of pedestrians and motor vehicles minimum delay. It also proposes a inductive signals control algorithm of mid-block crosswalks, which depends on the traffic information detection technology, the demand of pedestrian crossing, motor vehicle traffic flow and traffic clearance with a full consideration of the pedestrian’s psychology endure ability. For large spanning crosswalks, the relative theory of twice crossing and the delay mechanism of inductive signals control of mid-block crosswalks between vehicles and pedestrian should be integrated on the basis of it. According to the suggested coordinate control of "the pedestrian green wave ", mid-block pedestrian crosswalks twice crossing inductive control algorithm then comes up.Finally, considering the interference factors of opposing pedestrians and the impacts of synclastic pedestrians due to different speed meanwhile, combining the pedestrian crossing characteristics at countdown signalized crosswalks, a lattice gas simulation model of pedestrian crossing is proposed and the simulation software CAperson is compiled. It verifies the designed inductive control algorithm, by using Vissim traffic simulation software and CAperson pedestrian simulation software. According to the simulation results, the application conditions of the inductive control algorithm is given.
