The noise of the drum-type washing machine has seriously disturbed people’s life in the recent years. The airflow noise is one of the most significant noise of the machine but lack of reducing methods. To solve the problem, the key parts’ structure of the washing machine can be changed to decrease the airflow noise and maximize the man-machine efficiency. The procedure of reducing the airflow noise can be divided to 4 parts. Firstly, the original case’s airflow motion is simulated by the finite element analysis and proved by the experiment. Secondly, the primary optimized cases are proposed by using the aeroacoustic knowledge to analyze the machine’s voice mechanism. Thirdly, the influence factors are discovered by comparing the simulating data of the different cases. Lastly, the further optimized cases are continuously proposed and simulated. The study of decreasing the airflow noise is made up of two parts:the inner drum part and the triangle holder part. Among the inner drum’s cases, the biggest decline is 6.7dB. The triangle holder’s cases have 3 sections:the cavity section, the big hole section and the holder shape section. Their biggest declines are 3.7dB,5.8dB and 4.3dB.To balance the man-machine efficiency, the ergonomics is introduced to consider the mutual influences of man and machine. Then, the comprehensive evaluation system is built to evaluate all the cases and choose the best one. The conclusions are that the best case in the inner drum part is case2 which has the "Bowl" inner drum and the "roll" outside drum. The best case in the triangle holder part is casel4 which has the 20mm shorter cavity than the common one.
