Research On The Implant Of New Buildings In Historical Context Of Ancient Jiangnan Water-Town

At present, China is in a period of rapid urbanization, ancient Jiangnan water-town is dealing with development and construction issues under the premise of retaining the original architectural culture. This Dissertation is researching on the architectural design in ancient town through new building implantation.The research is separated in three parts, each part includes Epistemology and methodology. "Blending of old and new" is the premise of designing in water-town, discussing how the new building in coordination with the existing buildings, ensuring that new buildings will not destroy the original texture. "Symbiosis with nature" takes the natural scenery in water-town as a focal point. It takes the "Imaginary Scenery"-"Real Scenery"-"Memorial Scenery" as the scenery sequence, researching on the organization of scenery in water-town, aiming to improve the quality of ancient Jiangnan water-town. "Cooperate with Nature" focus on how "man-made" can compete with "natural creations", considering the water-town as a settlement, discussing how the new building strengthen the settlement feature of water-town, and prompting the town’s natural growth. Every part completes each other and progresses step by step, starting from how the new building in coordination with the existing buildings, then how the new building improve the scenery and end with how the new building prompting the town’s natural growth, at last explain the use of these three design methods through two real projects.
