The cargo of heavy trailer tank truck and freight turnover is improved significantly,which makes tank truck popular with consumers. However, the dangerous conditions of yaw, rollover and jackknife often happen due to its large inertia, long body, high center of mass, liquid sloshing and so on. Especially, in the process of steering, the liquid sloshing in the tank has transient impact on the body of tank with the change of center of liquid, which lower the rollover stability and easily lead to the vehicle rollover. Therefore, the study on the effect caused by liquid sloshing in the tank, its effect on vehicle rollover and the control method has important theoretical significance and engineering value.The tank was simplified to a elliptical cylinder in order to study the liquid slosh inside the a partly filled tank. Then the standard k-ε was applied to modeling liquid slosh inside the tank the moment the heavy tank truck was driven in the condition of turning to analyze the effect of liquid slosh on the vehicle rollover. Finally, the roll stability control of heavy tank truck was studied on the basis of above conclusions.First, a simplified three-dimensional model of elliptical cylinder tank with lateral baffles was created by GAMBIT and its mesh was generated, boundary conditions and fluid were set, generating the mesh file.Second, the mesh file was imported into FLUENT software. Then the task of liquid interface tracking was finished by the VOF(Volume of Fluid) model. The nonlinear dynamics of fluid inside the partly filled elliptical cylinder was analyzed with the help of standard k-ε turbulence model and got the transient force and moment on the tank owing to the liquid slosh inside the elliptical cylinder during heavy tank truck steering.Third, the dynamic model of heavy tank truck was established by TruckSim according to the transient forces and moments got by simulation. At the same time, the dynamic model of vehicle whose tank with liquid was regarded as the rigid body with the same quality was also built. The simulation was performed in the condition of hook maneuver and the effect of liquid slosh inside the partly tank was got by comparing the two established vehicle dynamic model.Finally, the vehicle differential braking control strategy was built using the Matlab/Simulink, which was combined with the dynamic model of heavy tank truck based on TruckSim, to complete the co-simulation and verify the differential braking control strategy can effectively control the rollover stability of heavy tank truck subjected to turning maneuvers.
