The 330 kV class substation plays an important role in long distance transmission. Some middle substations need to be built,when transmitting the western large power to eastern place. These substations are built in some remote area, which are under lighting strike and power system overvoltage for a long term, they happen to huge loss, and lead to grid splitting between different zones. Therefore, it’s urgent to keep the stability of surge arresters in substation.In order to ensure the surge arresters work steadily in substation, the potential distribution of the in internal valve elements should be improved well. In this way the maximum voltage distribution ratio can be reduced as much as possible. The voltage distribution ratio can be reduced by changing the structure of grading rings, but grading rings are metal material, the electric field intensity on their surface must be limited. As the complicated of relationship between voltage distribution ratio and grading rings structure, it’s hard to establish accurate mathematical model.In this paper, therefore, given the research object works under 50 Hz electric condition, it is studied by changing condition, which is under Electroquasistatic. To analyze the influence between grading rings and axial potential distribution and electric field intensity distribution by researching 110 kV insulator axial electric variation. Secondly, the surge arrester is built by parametric modeling and coped with symmetrical treatment, analyzing the potential and electric filed intensity distribution on umbrella and valve element, summarizing the characteristic of each other meanwhile. Finally, support vector and different evolution algorithm are used to optimize the grading rings, the conclusion clearly shows that the maximum voltage distribution ratio on valve element are reduced much, and the electric field intensity on grading rings dropped largely, the goal of optimizing potential distribution on valve element has achieved successfully.
