The Research Of The Engineering Database Based On GIS

Along with the increasing deeper development of railway survey and design informalization, the integrated technologies of survey and design are advanced from automation of individual tasks to automation of workflow under the network environment. In earlier computer assisted survey and design work, the main feature is the applications of digital techniques for individual tasks, however the integration of survey and design is expected to realize the collaborative design among different stages and different specialties by means of the dynamic maintenance, sharing and integrated applications of all the data through the whole life cycle of survey and design in the distributed network environment. Aiming at the requirements of collaborative design of railway, this paper introduces the standardization of survey and design fundamental databases, the integrated organization and management of multi-type databases, and the database functions for distributed collaborative design.According to the definition given by ASPRS, "Geographic Information System (GIS) is an information system able to encode, store, transform, analyze, and display geospatial information".The data of railway survey and design include both spatial position and relevant attributes, so we can utilize the managing capacity of GIS for spatial data to manage the data of railway survey and design efficiently, and to impel the integrated technologies of survey and design informalization.Aiming at the requirements of data sharing and collaborative design of railway, this paper is based on a case study and experiment analysis to introduce the design and realization of railway survey and design fundamental databases, the integrated organization and management of multi-type databases, and the database functions for distributed collaborative design. The system, which based on the spatial data jet called ArcSDE and Oracle9i database, makes use of client/sever mechanism and the capacity of spatial data managing of GIS to design the rational database structure and realize database management system meeting the requirements of data sharing. Meanwhile, the paper offered a thought and reference about the integration of GIS and railway survey and design.
