Enterprises or organizations have various vehicle fleets such as transportation, postal, police, fire-fighting, and emergency fleets. Each year, much cost and effort is spent for their maintenance and management. Therefore, it is of great significance to effectively manage them in a comprehensive way. The maintenance management deals with many aspects such as purchase、performance evaluation, reliability modeling, scheduling, optimizing maintenance policies, logistics、depreciation, and so on. This thesis carries of a primary study for some of the problems mentioned above, and presents the results and relevant suggestions. The fleet is comprised of a number of same or similar vehicles. They independently operate to perform a given mission. A vehicle can be viewed as a multi-component series system. The system fails if any component fails. To ensure the vehicles’normal operation, we need to master the performance condition and then make reasonable maintenance and inventory policies. The vehicle reliability model is the basis of analyzing maintenance and inventory policies, and the maintenance and inventory policies are adopted to ensure the vehicles’reliability.Major works that the thesis carries out are as follows.(1) Reliability modeling for key components and the simulation of vehicle lifetime. Modeling components reliabilities is the basis of modeling the vehicle’s reliability. Component reliability modeling is based on the field data, and the built component reliability model is applied to evaluate the system reliability by Monte Carlo simulation, and optimize the maintenance policy and inventory policy.(2) Use statistical process control chart to monitor the fleet maintenance performance and a control chart based on the failure number is built and it is applied to appropriately adjust the preventive maintenance intervals of vehicles. A cumulative failure time control chart is also explored and the quasi-normal distribution is used to approximate the distribution of the cumulative failure time. The appropriateness is illustrated by simulation.(3) Multi-criteria spare part classification. The thesis analyzes the existing multi-criteria ABC classification approaches and discuss three models for mathematically generate the criteria weights. The method is applied to the classification of inventory materials of Changsha Bus Company.
