A Study On The Problem Of Narrowing The Income Gap Between Urban And Rural Residents In Jiangsu Province From The Perspective Of Urban And Rural Overall Planning

Since the reform and opening up, along with China’s rapid economicdevelopment, people’s living standards greatly improved, but the income gap betweenurban and rural areas has widened. Jiangsu, as a coastal province, its income gap hasbeen smaller among all the provinces or regions in China. In2003, its urban-ruralincome ratio was2.39:1. Since the16th National Party Congress proposed “urban andrural development”, which is the first of five development strategies, governments atall levels have taken steps to promote a favorable local urban and rural development.And the urban and rural development of Jiangsu is walking in the front. Currently,there is much research literature that is about urban and rural development or incomegap between urban and rural residents. But there is less literature to study how toreduce the income gap between urban and rural residents from the perspective ofurban and rural development, and it didn’t appear the case of literature specializing inJiangsu. Therefore, there is certain practical significance to study how to narrow theincome gap between urban and rural of Jiangsu in the progress of urban and ruraldevelopment.Based on the study of relevant literature, first of all, this paper analyses theincome gap between urban and rural residents in Jiangsu, and gets the results: Theincome gap between urban and rural residents in Jiangsu is less than the nationalaverage, and it is unbalanced among the three regions. What’s more, there is a slightdownward trend in the future. Then, it studies the reasons of urban-rural income gapfrom the perspective of urban and rural development in Jiangsu and gets that thedifferent source of income impact on the income gap between urban and ruralresidents differently. More Over, the structure and the level of urban-ruraldevelopment are the important factors in the income gap. Finally, we give thesuggestions about how to narrow wage income gap, transfer income gap, operatingincome gap and property income gap in Jiangsu by implementing urban and ruraldevelopment.
