The Evolution And Revelation Of The Relationship Between Fairness And Efficiency In China From The Perspective Of Labor Value Theory

Whether efficiency can balance with fairness is not only an important index tojudge the degree of social civilization, but also a critical goal to be achieved duringthe social construction. At the beginning of the foundation of new China, theCommunist Party, which has a mission of establishing a new prosperous and faircountry, has made unremitted effort on it to acquire the rapid economic growth underimpartiality. Therefore the relationship between efficiency and equality ischaracteristic and treated respectively at different historic periods. The treatment evenbecomes one of mark to distinguish one from another. As the further development ofsocialist market economy, the conflict between efficiency and equality is increasinglyobvious, becoming a main factor constraining the sound development of socialeconomic and political life. Analyzing its evolution characteristic at different time,summing up the experience and drawing on it are beneficial for gaining enlightenment.This not only can improve the theoretical understanding, but also can satisfy therequirement of the practical development.Based on Marx’s view on the fairness and efficiency in his labor value theory,this paper studies the development of the relationship between efficiency and equalityin our country since new China was established in1949. The understandingdevelopment and practical process at different period are analyzed. Some valuableresults are attempted to get, helping provide the correct methodology to dispose therelationship at the current stage. The paper involves the following aspects:Firstly, the background and significance of this research in terms of the Marxlabor value theory are introduced. The domestic and foreign research status isdiscussed and the main methodology applied in this paper is briefly described.Secondly, Marx’s view on the equality and efficiency in his labor value theory isdemonstrated. It includes the thought of equality when labor exchanging, payment andparticipation occur; the thought of efficiency based on the view that the marketcompetition determines the production efficiency; social institution is the decisivefactor to achieve the unity of equality and efficiency.Thirdly, from the Marx’s perspective on equality and efficiency, the briefanalysis on coping with this relationship is given via reorganizing and summarizingthe guiding ideology and practical process at various historic period. According to itsfeature, it can be mainly divided into three periods: The period during1949to1978,in which the new government was initially organized and gave priority to equalityover efficiency; the period during1978to2000, in which the government carried outthe policy of social reform and opening, balancing equality with efficiency; the periodafter2000, in which the government puts more emphasis on the equality.
