After the1990s, global expansion and the trend of trade liberalization in the automotive industry, multinational auto companies distributed the various aspects of the value to the various regions of the world. Through the integration of national automobile industry, multinational auto companies established the global automotive industry value chain which was leaded by the multinational. With the continuous development of the international automobile trade, non-core businesses of multinational auto companies in developed countries continued to be taken away. As a place to undertake these businesses, the Chinese auto industry is in the labor-intensive and low value-added sectors. The high value-added sectors of Product development, sales and service are still being controlled by developed continuous. Therefore, China must accelerate auto industrial upgrading.Based on the research of vehicle manufacturing, parts manufacturing, sales and after-sales service, design and brand management of Chinese automobile industry, China should build our own global automotive industry value chain through innovation upgrade mode, to get their core technology to achieve industrial upgrading by reverse outsourcing, to get rid of the area of low value-added and to get higher profits and more competitiveness.This article first explains the research background and the reasons why the questions posed, and it will clarify the purpose and significance of the research papers; Secondly, from the relationship of the driven mechanism, governance, industrial upgrading path as well as other aspects of the global value chain to illustrate the basic theoretical framework of the global automotive industry value chain; and it analyzes the upgrading status of the global automotive industry value chain. And it analyzes the status of the various aspects of Chinese auto industry in the global value chain system. Thirdly, through the analysis of a number of indicators on the international competitiveness of China’s automobile industry, its international competitiveness is still relatively low and it must be upgraded. Then, with two upgrading modes of a joint upgrading and a independent innovation upgrading, to analyze the path of Chinese automobile industry upgrading of global value chain,to propose that one company can develop its own core technologies by reverse outsourcing, and through the establishment of econometric models to make it sure. Finally, make policy recommendations.
