Study On The Relationship Between Economic Growth And Environmental Pollution In Kunming Based On EKC

With the rapid economic growth and urbanization, we are facing more and moreenvironmental problems. Now people are realized the necessity and urgency toresolve the major issues that concerned with human survival, because of thedeteriorating environment in the world. In many countries, environmental issueshave become an important and can not be ignored factor in the development policies.More and more scholars pay attention to the relationship between economic growthand environmental pollution.In this paper, we will use a regression analysis using the data of Kunming from1999to2011to test the relationship of economic growth and environmentalpollution. The pollution indexes are industrial waste water, emissions of industrialsulfur dioxide, emission of industrial smoke and industrial dust. The economicdeveloping index is average GDP of Kunming．Through the establishment of typicalenvironmental indicators and econometric models, we analyze the relationshipbetween the two economic growth and environmental pollution. The result showsthat the relationship between average GDP of Kunming and industrial waste water,emissions of industrial smoke and industrial dust are U shape, but the relationshipbetween average GDP of Kunming and emissions of industrial sulfur dioxide islinear. On this basis, the paper also proposes the coordinated developmentsuggestions of economy and environment of Kunming.This paper contains five parts. The first part is an introduction. In this part theauthor describes the importance of researching relationship between economicgrowth and environmental pollution, and reviews the studies of economic growthand environmental pollution, at last, conclude the basic ideas and technical routestudy. The second part introduces the basic concepts and theories. Elaborate thetheories of the industrialization phase and the EKC curve. The third part analysis theconditions of the growth of economic and environmental pollution in Kunming,including economic growth conditions, environmental quality and major pollutantssituation, and the development stage of industrialization. The fourth part is theempirical analysis of the relationship between economic growth and environmentalpollution of the Kunming, including modeling, empirical testing and results analysis.The last part is conclusions and suggestions. Propose the suggestions that Kunmingshould be accelerate to adjust and optimize the industrial structure.
