Urbanization is the only way for countries to achieve economic development. In China, promoting the new urbanization has become a national strategic, and urbanization is in a critical period of development. The works to promote its continued development face both opportunities and challenges.Since the reform and opening up, China has made great achievements in the development of urbanization, but because of regional differences, all regions showed spatial differentiation in urbanization to a certain extent. Therefore, it has important realistic significance to ensure urbanization coordinated and healthy development and consummate our current urbanization pattern theory that systematic study China’s urbanization development and seize opportunities and conditions to explore a suitable differentiation of urbanization development pattern.Firstly, this paper summarizes the concepts of urbanization and patterns, and elaborates on the basis theory of urbanization patterns study. Secondly, in order to provide a reference for China’s development path of urbanization, it summarizes the typical pattern of domestic and foreign urbanization and its evolution. Thirdly, according to the latest national statistical data, to study the urbanization of China’s east, middle and west from the level of urbanization, the stage of development,industrial layout, population flows across regions, urban scale and function, urban infrastructure,urbanization development problem etc., and explains the reason why the difference in spatial. Finally, it gives suggestion on the suitable pattern for the further development of China’s urbanization and provides a reference for exploration of new urbanization construction road.
