With the birth and development of computer and information technology, software enterprises arise to satisfy the needs of all walks of life to the software application. The traditional management mode has cannot meet the needs of enterprise management. More and more enterprises begin to apply project management method, which is different from traditional function management. New management mode is more suited to the characteristics of the enterprise. However, the market competition becomes increasingly sharply, enterprises face a bigger challenge. In recent years, the organizational project management has become a hot topic. Project management office (PMO) is a very important tool for organizational project management. Many organizations apply project management office to promote the organization’s management ability and competitiveness.Based on the above situation, this paper studies the present situation of project management office in software enterprises and software companies’ demand for project management office. After analysis and compare the present situation with the demand, the author put forward to model and reference methods for the software enterprise project management office.From two aspects of the research literature at home and abroad, this paper summarizes project management office, introduces the definition and type of project management office. On the basis of extensive literature search, the author extracts the functions of project management office and builds the evaluation model of project management office functions. This paper selects the domestic software companies as the research object, interview and survey three software companies. Based on the results of the model and the interview survey, the author summarizes37indicators and designs Likert scale questionnaires of the project management office management work satisfaction and importance. The author uses SPSS19.0software to analyze the data obtained by the questionnaire survey of three software companies by descriptive statistics and factor analysis. This paper extract five major functions of project management office:provide auxiliary support, provide training and consulting, resource management, coordinate multiple projects, develop and perfect the system of standards. Combined with the result of factor analysis, by explaining and comparing the project management office work status with demand, fixing the project management office, this paper put forward the methods to improve and perfect software enterprise project management office.As an empirical study of project management office, the model and methods in this paper can be used by other researchers. The paper provides referential operable methods for software enterprises to set up and improve the project management office.
