Study On The Structure And Economic Growth Contribution Of Food Industry In Luohe City

Food industry is closely related to human’s need, its level of development is an indication of the civilization and people’s quality of life in a country. Food industry has played a significant role in supporting regional economic growth, and connected to the primary industry, second industry and the tertiary industry closely. In 2013, China’s largest meat processor, Shuanghui Group, purchased Smithfield, the largest pork maker in the USA, which makes people focus on the development of food industry again. Luohe is the headquarter of Shuanghui Group, and has become one of the famous Chinese foodstuff cities. As a successful form of industry organization, industry cluster is an effective strategy for city developing. Relying on its advantages in agricultural byproducts resources, food industry cluster in Luohe has become a successful example of the development of industry cluster. Therefore, taking Luohe city as a case study of food industry is a typical and representative choice.The development of a region’s economy or industry mainly displays in two aspects: one is the expansion of the quantity and the other is the optimization of the structure. First of all, this thesis introduces the development path and spatial layout of food industry in Luohe. Then makes a comprehensive study on the structure of food industry in Luohe. There are two primary categories of social and economic structure: structure in proportion and space. The proportional structure generally includes employment structure, production value structure, added value structure, profit structure and market structure etc.. After studying the expansion of the quantity then analysis its contribution to the economic growth. This paper regards basic theory of industry cluster, competitiveness of industry, industrial organization and spatial structure as guide, conducting a number of exploratory studies to the development of food industry in Luohe.
