The Silk Road Economic Belt, initiated by China, is a strategy of international cooperation being put into practice at present. Special geographical and historical factors determine the critical role Mid-Asian countries play in the construction and development of this strategy. The proposal of this strategy contains profound domestic and international background, in addition to the requirement of the full-scale coordination in development the global economic integration entrusts China, China’s foreign policy, especially, the strategic environment around China are becoming more severe since 2012. The Silk Road Economic Belt opens a new route for China’s development. Based on the urgent needs of Mid-Asian countries around China in their infrastructures and economic development, China is aimed at further safeguarding the regional stability and development through its diversal cooperation with Mid-Asian countries. The Silk Road Economic Bely is another innovation China has created in its cooperation with Mid-Asian countries thus expanding the international cooperation. China faces opportunities and challenges as well in the present numerous and complicated international environment.This thesis is to analyze the unique roles the Mid-Asian countries play in the Silk Road Economic Bely, from the perspective of Mid-Asian countries cooperation with China drawing on geopolitics, explore the advantages and disadvantages the involvement by the Mid-Asian countries in this strategy brings to those countries, expounds on the concrete and directed cooperation between the Mid-Asian countries and China under this strategy. This thesis, with Mid-Asian countries as the Silk Road Economic Belt construction,, after a brief account of this strategy, focuses on the complementarities in the cooperation between China and Mid-Asian countries with reference to experiences between those countries in history. Stressing all the complementarities in cooperation, this thesis analyzes the mutual benefit and win-win China’s cooperation with the Mid-Asian countries will produce, the role this cooperation will play in promoting the regional economic integration, the role this cooperation will play in safeguarding the world peace and reforms. By analyzing the cooperation between Mid-Asian countries and China, this thesis lists the opportunities and challenges the Silk Road Economic belt brings to those countries. Though expounding on how to expand the opportunities and decreasing the challenges the thesis explains that the advantages the involvement by Mid-Asian countries in the Silk Road Economic Belt will turn out to be a great deal..This thesis consists of three parts:introduction, body and conclusion. The introduction part gives an account of the background and significance of choosing this title, current research on this problem both at home and abroad, the techniques adopted in writing this thesis and specific difficulties and creativities encountered in completing the thesis.The first chapter in the body part analyzes the Silk Road Economic belt based on the geographical strategy as a theory and in the meanwhile explores the background and contents of the strategy while initiated. The second chapter expounds on the three stages in the cooperation between Mid-Asian countries and China; good-neighbor and good-will cooperation when they just declared independence, the new century full-scale cooperation including economy, energy, and security, connectivity and communication after this strategy was initiated, and further cooperation in industry and investment as well. The third chapter lists what the Silk Road Economic Bely brings to the Mid-Asian countries; regional settlement cooperation, on-resource cooperation, strategic cooperation, inner cooperation and opportunities and challenges influenced by the major powers, and the thesis analyzes the basic policies the Mid-Asian countries involve in foreign affairs as well. The fourth chapter concentrate on the opportunities and challenges list in the previous chapter and under the background of the Silk Road Economic belt and elaborate on the significance of the Mid-Asian countries’involvement in the Silk Road Economic Belt and the benefit the directed cooperation under this strategy brings to the region nd the world.Lastly, the conclusion part gives a summary of the thesis and arrives at the conclusion that the involvement by the Mid-Asian countries in the Silk Road Economic Belt is not only feasible but also has a bright prospect.
