With the development trend of the world economic globalization and regional integration,most countries begin to focus the development strategies on the international market, expecting to seek cooperative partners and counter with the market competition. China raised the Silk Road Economic Belt initiative in the year 2013, which has been supported by the countries along the belt. As the core segment of the Silk Road Economic Belt, Northwest China should promote the inland and border open and gradually push the process of regional economic integration,beginning with developing sub-regional economic cooperation with Central Asian countries.This paper takes the theory and practice of sub-regional economic cooperation as research objects, aiming to discuss the same issue between Northwest China and Central Asian countries.In the study, it also attempts to explore the general problem in the Silk Road Economic Belt based on the practice of the core segment.The paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, including the research background and significance, current research status, research contents and methods. The second part defines the concept and characters of sub-regional economic cooperation, delimits the core segment of the Silk Road Economic Belt, and summaries the related theories. At last, this part discusses the sub-regional economic cooperation’s typical practice and experience of our country.The third part studies the current situation of cooperation between Northwest China and Central Asian countries. In the fourth part, it explores the pattern and path of the sub-regional economic cooperation, in order to expand the cooperation’s space and fields and promote it’s level.The fifth part tries to sets up the mechanism of the cooperation with multilevel, including international organization, nation, local government and enterprises.The sixth part proposes some suggestions with the purpose of ensuring the sub-regional economic cooperation between Northwest China and Central Asian countries. The seventh part talks about the conclusion and the prospect.
