With the rapid development of modern society and the changes in people’s needs, the competition between automobile enterprises shifts from scale competition to quality and the length of available competition. How to make high-quality products and how to rapidly occupy the market have become the key to the automotive enterprises in an impregnable position.This paper is based on the production reality of the production line in Jinbei automobile assembly workshop, researching the balance and simulation problems in automobile mixed assembly line. Firstly, this paper introduces the research background and significance of the balancing problem in assembly line, and summarizes the balancing problem, sequencing problem and the research status of simulation software at home and abroad.Then the paper introduces some related research theories about the balance problem of the assembly line, the development of simulation technology and some simulation software that commonly used. Next,the genetic algorithm and its solving process are detailed introduced. In this paper, genetic algorithm is applied to solve the balance problem of single product line, and is improved and transformed to adapt to the balancing problem of the mixed production line.After, the paper applies genetic algorithm to research the balancing problem of sea lions-grace mixed assembly line, and to confirm the minimum number of workstations and distribution elements of each workstation. After treatment, the balancing effect of assembly line is obvious.At last, the paper introduces the modeling process of Witness simulation software, and then conducts modeling optimization to sea lions-grace mixed assembly line. By using simulation method, we solve the scheduling problem and find the optimized production scheduling through Witness software, then put the optimization results into the model to simulate, calculating out the load status and products quantity and so on of each workstation in simulation time to meet the design requirements. Thus far, a complete set of methods to solve the balancing and simulation problem of the automobile assembly line is obtained.
