Product Configuration Design not only has to meet the spiritual needs of consumers but also has to meet the product design requirements for internal functions realize. General product modelling design isuss includes product geometry form, color, material, maps (or texture) and other modelling aspects. it covers engineering sciences, design arts, psychology, human-machine engineering and other related sciences, including abstract thinking and logical thinking, which has been one of the difficulties of product design research. This paper focuses on how to use genetic algorithm and case-based product modeling innovation for product appearance's design whose research objects are mechanical and electrical products. In this paper, the main research works are as follows:(1) Research and analysis the use of the genetic algorithm in the product design field, study the application and development trends of it.(2) Use Semantic Differential method (SD method) to analysis electric bicycle design characteristics, extract the modelling elements of electric bicycle's appereance.(3) Explore the application method of genetic algorithm in product design, including mathematical modelling, division of product modelling elements , coding methods and so on.(4) Explore the method of building the the style gene database of product design, and the extraction method of the product design elements (shape, color, material, texture). Use software AuthorWare to develop the modelling gene library system. Use this method in the optimal design of electric bikes thus show how to generate the initial style gene group of a certain product.(5) Use Visual BASIC program to develop the genetic algorithms application back-end database system, and optimize the design of electric bicycle as an example to show how to use the database system.
