Traditional miss distance measurement divide into the measuring depend on moving coordinate or static coordinate. The disadvantage of the measurement based on moving coordinate is that the device cannot be recovered. As the weight of the measure device based on static coordinate is very large, it is difficult to move. So a new miss distance measurement method to replace the traditional method is in demand. Binocular stereo vision as a non-contact high precision measurement method has been widely used. The paper applies the binocular stereo vision measurement technology to miss distance measurement to overcome the disadvantages of traditional measurement methods.The main content and achievements are as follows:1) Under the studying basic principle of camera calibration (including imaging model and coordinate transformation) and the general methods of camera calibration, the camera calibration model is established and the expression of the calibration parameters is derived.2) On the basis of further research on image processing, a procedure of moving object detection based on image sequence and a process for pixels location of center is designed. The procedure includes image processing, background subtraction, mathematical morphological processing, and image segmentation and so on.3) A measurement system including software and hardware is designed based on binocular stereo vision testing technology. Through the positioning of moving target and trajectory fitting, the miss distance is measured.4) The measuring accuracy is analyzed with the system testing process. The accuracy is verified through a large amount of experiments.Research and experimental results show that:the system calibration is uncomplicated and the result of calibration is reliable. Using the designed procedure of image sequences processing including the quick detection, precise segmentation and high-precision position for moving target are achieved. The measuring system precision meets the design requirement.
