With the development of modern military technology, shells will own faster speed, further firing range and stronger capability of destruction in the future. To this end, the government is more and more anxious to own advanced emission technology. Electromagnetic launch technology utilizes electromagnetic force to propel projectile. Projectile will reach an extremely high speed in an extremely short period. Therefore, this technology has received widespread attention. The electromagnetic coil gun has some advantages, such as large thrust, long life and so on, over other equipments. By virtue of these advantages it will play an important role in military field in the future. The launching process of electromagnetic coil gun is complex, the test cost and maintenance cost is high, therefore, we should adopt simulation method and carry out analysis and design first, then do experiment research, and finally perform specific analysis of the problems existing in the launch process, improve the launching system.This paper analyzes the influence of the electromagnetic coil gun system parameter change on muzzle velocity of projectile. And on the basis it deeply studies projectile velocity optimization problems of electromagnetic coil gun. The main research contents include the following aspects.First, it builds 2D model and performs simulation experiments of electromagnetic coil gun system in software ANSYS Maxwell. Then it studies the influence of driving circuit parameters and trigger position on muzzle velocity of projectile. These works deepen our understanding and awareness to launching principles and launching process of electromagnetic coil gun.Second, it uses current filament method subdividing aluminium bullet and builds up mathematical model of the electromagnetic coil gun system on equivalent circuit model. It applies Maxwell software to calculate inductance parameters, and uses improved ABM method to numerical analyze mathematical model. Then it works out a computing program of coilgun system in MATLAB. By comparing the results of Maxwell and MATLAB, it proves the accuracy of mathematical model. Then it uses improved genetic algorithm performing the optimization of electromagnetic coil gun system parameters and achieves highest speed of aluminium bullet.At last, based on the experimental condition, it designs driving circuit of coil gun. And it uses FPGA development board triggering thyristors and computing movement time of aluminium bullet. And it builds up experimental system of three stages coil gun. By comparing and analyzing experimental results with simulation results from Maxwell, it verifies the rationality of system model and the reliablity of Maxwell’s simulation results.
