This paper studied the growth and development law of Atractylodes japonica, from seeding germination, growing seedlings measures, seedling treatment, aboveground and underground part growth quantity. The results were as follows:1、The average thousand kernel weight of Atractylodes seeds was12.80g, the average moisture content was6.42%, the permeabilityseed of seed coat was good. Seed germination of Atractylodes must be enough moisture in the soil. It was the most suitable seed germination stage when the temperature was15℃.2、When the Atractylodes japonica was growing seedlings, the emergence rate and the total survival rate of Atractylodes japonica in silty loam were the highest, which could amount to35.4%and35.4%. Although clay loam unearthed rate was not high, but its total survival rate could reach69.8%. From the emergence rate, seedling fresh weight and the total survival rate of Atractylodes japonica, the-appropriate overlying soil thickness was4cm when the temperature was15℃, and the appropriate covering thickness was3cm when the temperature was20℃. The emergence time of Atractylodes japonica was20d under15℃condition, which was8d later than20℃, but its germination rate and total survival rate were higher than20℃.3、In seeding treatment methods of Atractylodes japonica,200ppm GA and PEG treatment could not only improve the germination rate of seeds of Atractylodes japonica, which could amount to74.4%and72.2%, and also could reduce the number of days required for seedling emergence of Atractylodes japonica, compared with the control group, which could be6days earlier. The seedling quality of Atractylodes japonica was the best in PEG treatment.4、In the PEG treatments based on PEG orthogonal design, the concentration of PEG, temperature treatment, PEG molecular weight had a significant effect on the germination rate of Atractylodes japonica seed. Among them, the concentration of PEG and temperature treatment both had a significant effect on the germination potential of Atractylodes japonica seed. However, the time treatment factor had not a significant effect on the germination rate and the germination potential of Atractylodes japonica seed. When the concentration of PEG was10%, and the temperature was15℃, the germination rate and the germination potential of Atractylodes japonica seed were the best.5、A plant height growth small peak and leaf function period of biennial Atractylodes were10days in advance than that of triennial’ Atractylodes. Atractylodes japonica began to bud during late June to early July, flower41.5-44.7d after bud. A simple inflorescence needed4.2-6.5d to open. Day blossom peak time was in6:00-8:00. The seeds of Atractylodes needed61.8-62.8d to mature. The growth alternating time of aboveground and belowground of Atractylodes, which was the maximum period of the dry matter proportion of above/below ground, was between August17th and September7th.
