This paper used the half-sib progeny of superior trees of castanopsis fissa selected on the2003as test materials to analyze the variation regularity of growth traits among families, selecting potential, phenotypic correlation and genetic correlation between character traits, genetic control, etc. Using the method of comprehensive index selection selected superior family and estimated the genetic gain selection. The main results were as follows:(1)Each family variation coefficient of tree height was7.67%~10.75%, variation coefficient of DBH was9.94%-14.63%, variation coefficient of bole volume was21.7%~33.29%, variation coefficient of crown mean diameter was9.62%~20.21%, variation coefficient of crown/tree height ratio was7.37%~22.07%, variation coefficient of crown/BHD ratio was6.39%-25.18%. The maximum coefficient of variation is bole volume character.(2)In terms of average tree height, in addition to the group4family showed significant level, the differences between each other showed extremely significant level, the hereditary of family change between0.441~0.822. In terms of average DBH, the four groups family showed extremely significant level, the hereditary of family change between0.542~0.807. In terms of average volume, there are extremely significant differences can be seen in all groups except for group4family. The hereditary of family change between0.391~0.796. In terms of average crown mean diameter, the four groups family showed extremely significant level, the hereditary of family change between0.617~0.899. In terms of average crown/tree height ratio, there is no significant difference to be seen in the group1family, the other groups showed extremely significant level, the hereditary of family change between0.305-0.750. In terms of average crown/BHD ratio, the group2family showed extremely significant level. The group1family showed significant difference and there is no significant difference to be seen between group3and4family, the hereditary of family change between0.270-0.801.(3)Between the two characters of tree height, DBH and volume present a significant positively related to the phenotypic and genetic correlations. The phenotypic and genetic correlation between DBH and crown breadth showed extremely significant positive correlation. There is no significant positive correlation between the crown and individual volume, tree height in the genetic correlation. The phenotypic and genetic correlation between crown mean diameter and crown/tree height ratio, crown/BHD ratio showed extremely significant positive correlation. The phenotypic and genetic correlation between tree height, DBH, volume and crown mean diameter, crown/tree height ratio, crown/BHD ratio showed extremely significant negative correlation.(4) The10superior families were selected by comprehensive index selection and then compared with the average family, the average genetic gain of tree height, DBH, volume, crown mean diameter, crown/tree height ratio, crown/BHD ratio is9.86%,16.16%,33.13%,19.60%,12.43%,0.82%; to compare with the average family, the average genetic gain is12.90%,19.23%,37.10%,22.12%,12.66%,2.31%.
