In this paper, different Castanopsis fissa provenances at age nine in two sites were researched to stduy the survival rate, growth traits, wood properties, and three superior provenances were respectively selected for building timber and pulpwood by synthetic index selection, and then classified the 14 provenances into three kinds by systematic cluster analysis. The main results were as follows:1. The survival rate of Castanopsis fissa provenances at age nine in Liangfengjiang of Nanning City was 57.26%, and it was 56.01% in Lingshan of Qinzhou city. The provenances with better ecological adaptability in Liangfengjiang was Guangxi Tiandong, Guangdong Yingde, and the provenances with worse ecological adaptability was Guangxi Long’an, Guangdong Fengkai. The provenances with better ecological adaptability in Lingshan was Guangxi Cangwu, Hunan Tongdao, and the provenances with worse ecological adaptability was Guangxi Long’an.2. There were significant or extremely significant differences in tree height, diameter at breast height, stem form, individual volume, wood basic density, fiber length, and the ratio of fiber length to width among different provenances in Liangfengjiang, but no significant difference were found in fiber width among provenances; There were extremely significant differences in tree height, diameter at breast height, stem form, individual volume, wood basic density, fiber length, fiber width and the ratio of fiber length to width among different provenances in Lingshan. The significant degree of the trait among different provenances in two sites was consistent with the analysis of the variance of single point, and all traits of Castanopsis fissa had extremely significant location effect.3. The provenance heritability of all traits was 0.097 to 0.599 in Liangfengjiang, and it was 0.221 to 0.859 in Lingshan. The provenance heritability of individual volume, fiber length, and the ratio of fiber length to width was high, and it had larger genetic improving potential.4. The main traits of Castanopsis fissa provenances appeared random geographic variation patter. The early selection on tree height of Castanopsis fissa provenances should not be too early, and the early selection age on diameter at breast height varied from place to place. There were significant or extremely significant positive phenotypic correlation, genetic correlation among tree height, diameter at breast height, individual volume, and it was same among fiber length, the ratio of fiber length to width.5. The superior provenances for building timber and pulpwood were Guangxi Cangwu, Hunan Tongdao, Guangxi Pingguo in Liangfengjiang, and the average genetic gain of the 3 selected superior provenances were 1.13% from tree height,7.50% from diameter at breast height,1.33% from stem form,15.24% from individual volume,0.05% from wood basic density,2.01% from fiber length, and 2.74% from the ratio of fiber length to width. The superior provenances for building timber were Guangxi Tiandong, Guangxi Cangwu, Guangxi Mengshan in Lingshan, and the average genetic gain of the 3 selected superior provenances were 3.37% from tree height,2.97% from diameter at breast height,3.93% from stem form,12.17% from individual volume,0.51% from wood basic density,-1.57% from fiber length, and -0.19% from the ratio of fiber length to width. The superior provenances for pulpwood were Guangxi Beiliu, Guangxi Cangwu, Guangdong Shaoguan in Lingshan, and the average genetic gain of the 3 selected superior provenances were 3.03% from tree height,1.32% from diameter at breast height,-6.39% from stem form,9.96% from individual volume,0.16% from wood basic density,6.13% from fiber length, and 4.52% from the ratio of fiber length to width.6. Results showed that 14 provenances can be divided into 3 groups by system cluster. The provenances of the first category had superior wood basic density, the characteristics of the second category was comprehensive excellent characters, and the provenances of the third category had superior stem form.
