Ornamental grass as a new garden plant material had been more and more applicated to landscape afforest.The study on the five perennial ornamental grasses from Changping of Bei Jing which including Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta、Festuca glauca、Miscanthus sinensis ’Variegatus’、Miscanthus sinensis’Zebrinus’and Pennisetum alopecuriodes’Little Bunny’.The research on cold-resistance and drought-resistance、phenology observations、 overwintering observations and ornamental evaluation.lt would not only enrich the garden plant material,but also promote the ornamental grass’s introduction.At the same time it would enhance the diversity of the plants in Harbin and provide a theoretical basis and guidance to the ornamental grass’s introduction in the area.The results showed that the spring ornamental value, from higher to lower, was Miscanthus sinensis’Zebrinus’>Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta>Festuca glauca>Miscanthus sinensis’Variegatus’>Pennisetum alopecuriodes’Little Bunny’. The summer ornamental value, from higher to lower, was Miscanthus sinensis’Zebrinus’> Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta> Miscanthus sinensis’Variegatus’> Pennisetum alopecuriodes’Little Bunny’ Festuca glauca.The changes of physiological indicators on five ornamental grasses were different in the different low-temperature stress. The relative conductivity were all upward trend.The SOD activities of Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta and Festuca glauca were elevated at beginning then declined,then the other three were all declined.The POD activities^soluble protein content and MDA were all elevated at beginning then declined.The proline content of Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta was fluctuation and the other four were all declined at first,then raised and at last declined. Use Logistic Regression equation to coculate the inflection point temperature and the result was the same with the cold-resistance evaluation. The cold-resistance ability,from higher to lower, was Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta> Festuca glauca> Pennisetum alopecuriodes’Little Bunny’> Miscanthus sinensis’Zebrinus’> Miscanthus sinensis’Variegatus’. It was accorded to the five ornamental grasses’s overwintering conditions.The five ornamental grasses had some drought-resistance. The soil water content and the leaves relative water content were declined trend. The relative conductivity, proline content and MDA upward trend.The SOD activities, POD activities and chlorophyll content were elevated at beginning then declined. The soluble protein content of Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta and Festuca glauca were declined at beginning then elevated and the other three were elevated at beginning then declined. It was accorded to the five ornamental grasses’s drought-resistance evaluation.The drought-resistence ability,from higher to lower, was Pennisetum alopecuriodes ’Little Bunny’> Miscanthus sinensis ’Zebrinus’> Miscanthus sinensis ’Variegatus’> Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta> Festuca glauca.Phalaris arundinacea cv.Picta has stronger cold-resistance.It could be overwintering in Harbin,so it was fit to introducing to Harbin as garden plant material to perennial cultivation. Pennisetum alopecuriodes’Little Bunny’, Miscanthus sinensis ’Variegatus’and Miscanthus sinensis’Zebrinus’ were also could used to landscaping in Harbin,but they needed a certain measure to against the cold in cold winter.
