Land suitability evaluation is a process by rational analysis of land based on some certainuse, the most essential key in land suitability evaluation is the way on land evaluation andclassification. As the representative of information technology, apply the GIS technology toagricultural land suitability evaluation, not only can be used as a tool to guide for the landmanagement, but also grasp the land distribution from a macro perspective. Corn millet as themain planting crops on the Loess Plateau, there is not many report on it, this paper selectsFugu County as the research object which located in the Loess Plateau in North ShaanxiProvince, using the method of mathematical model and GIS technique, to analyze land usepattern and soil nutrient degree, complete the suitability evaluation on corn millet whichprovide scientific basis for the research of modern agriculture, the main conclusions of thispaper are:(1) The study of land use pattern in Fugu County which consist of four aspectsdiversification, decentralization, the combination of the type and location analysis, the landuse types in Fugu County is abundant, higher levels of diversification(0.611) and lower levelsof decentralization(92%); arable land, woodland and grassland as the main land usetypes(1.518); arable land has important significance.(2) By analyzing the land use spatial in Fugu County, arable land, construction land andwaters dramatically dropped with digital terrain index increased, grassland, woodland andgarden increase steadily, other land is the most sensitive to topography; from the view ofplaque number, plaque area and plaque density, farmland(24.50%), woodland(12.12%) andgrassland(57.74%) is the main landscape matrix, the aggregation of water, construction landand other land is low and the spatial distribution scattered, from a cohesion of plaque indexcan see the grass, arable land and woodland have better connectivity.(3) For millet planting, in Fugu County the content of total organic matter is low(<10g/kg), the alkali-hydrolysable nitrogen is medium (25~40mg/kg), the availablephosphorus is low (5~10mg/kg), the available K is medium(70~100mg/kg).(4) The suitability level of cultivated land of corn millet in this County is different, highly suitable for arable land accounts for11.20%of the total arable land area, suitable accounts for28.99%, both distribute along the river terrace; marginally suitable accounts for54.62%, distributes over Loess Hilly Region; not suitable accounts for5.19%, distributes likedot in the central of Loess Hilly Region. It should be reasonably increased the content ofalkali-hydrolysable nitrogen, available phosphorus and soil organic matter, maintain thecontent of soil available potassium, at the same time, pay attention to reform soil structure, increase the ability of soil drought resisting, fertilized retaining and fertilizer capacity, furtherenhance the suitability of corn millet cultivation.
