Researching and choosing appropriate urban forest plants have important theoretical andpractical significance to build urban forest ecological system in different regional cities.Thispaper took the main urban forest plants which included twenty-two urban forest plant speciesin Xining as studying objects. Through the methods of field survey and lab analysis, both thedrought and the cold resistance were measured.The leaf anatomical structures (thickness ofleaves, thickness of upper epidermis, thickness of lower epidermis, cuticle thickness of upperepidermis, cuticle thickness of lower epidermis, thickness of palisade tissue, thickness ofspongy tissue, thickness of vein, stoma density and so on) and water eco-physiologicalcharacteristics (diurnal course of photosynthetic rate, diurnal course of transpiration rate,diurnal course of water utilization efficiency, diurnal course of water potential, water loss rateof excised leaves) were measured systematacially to study their drought resistance. Thechanges of their membrane-lipid peroxidation,antioxidative enzyme activity,and organicosmoregulatory substance content under artificial cooling were studied,aimed to analyze thedifferences of the twenty-two plants in cold resistance.On the basis of the analysis, thedrought and cold resistances of twenty-two urban forest tree species were evaluatedcomprehensively by membership function. The results provided theoretical reference forchoosing urban forest tree species in the arid and semiarid region. The main results were asfollows:1. Combined with leaf anatomical structures and water eco-physiological characteristics,the drought resistances of twenty-two plants were evaluated comprehensively by membershipfunction. The results showed that the drought resistance capability of twenty-two plantswas:Paeonia Suffruticosa.Caragana korshinskii.Ulmus laevis.Syringa oblata have strongerdrought resistance.Forsythia suspensa.Sorbaria sorbifolia.Berberis thunbergiicv.atrourpurea.Viburnum farreri have weaker drought resistance.2. Combined with POD,MDA,Soluble protein, the drought resistances of twenty-twoplant species were evaluated comprehensively by membership function. The results showedthat among the twenty-two plants Paeonia Suffruticosa.Caragana korshinskii.Ulmuslaevis.Syringa oblata have stronger cold resistance.Fallopia aubertii.Sorbaria sorbifolia.Berberis thunbergii cv.atrourpurea.Viburnum farreri have stronger coldresistance.3. Combined with drought resistance and drought resistance, the resistances oftwenty-two plants were evaluated comprehensively by membership function. The resultsshowed that among the twenty-two plants Caragana korshinskii.Syringa oblata.Populushopeiensis.Ulmus laevishave higher resistant capability.Caryopteris clandonensis.Sorbariasorbifolia.Fallopia aubertii.Viburnum farrerihave lower resistant capability.
