With the adjustment of planting structure, potato acreage has expanded each year. a lowlevel of mechanization of potato production issues becomes more prominent, and has become animportant factor of restricting the development of the industry. Domestic potato tillage, sowingand harvesting mechanization level in2011were48%,19.6%and17.7%.Currently, mechanizedharvesting on potatoes mainly depend on the applications of potato diggers, while potato diggersingle function, low productivity, poor technical level, labor intensive, therefore, for the domesticpotato cultivation in medium and small plots dominated case, this paper designed4U-1400potato harvester for medium-sized dryland. The harvester was mainly composed by diggingdevice, soil-potato separating device(primary and secondary), stalks separation device, potatolongitudinal transport device, vertical lifting device, bagging device, transmission system, frame,running gear and so on, therefore, the structure was very compact, in addition, it could finish tworows potatoes’ digging, cleaning soil, stalks, weed and residual membrane, vertical lifting andbagging etc at once.Major achievements include:1) According to the design requirements of potato harvester, based on functional designprinciples and Analytic Hierarchy Process, the function and overall structure of the program4U-1400potato combine harvester were determined;2) By the analysis of the current lifting devices’type, performance and features to the liftingdevice’ design was determined; while lifting device connected to the feed end and the dischargeend parametric analysis, completed the design of key components of the lifting device, and byoptimizing test, the optimal structure parameters and operating parameters of the lifting devicewere achieved;3)On the basis of the type, performance and comprehensive consideration of the advantagesand disadvantages of the current level of transport device, the analysis and design of the level oflongitudinal horizontal transport device structure were completed,combining with the throughputand potato size of the whole structure;4)Combining with the overall structure of the potato harvest process and4U-1400potatoharvester,the machine’s drive system solutions was finished; furthermore, the transmission ratiosbetween the device and the computing power consumption of each device were figured out;5) Three-dimensional solid model of the prototype was established using Solidworks software; Combining with the software modules and finite element simulation module, theconjoint analysis of key parts (potato soil level separation device drive shaft and drive shaftlifting device) was conducted, and the stress, strain and displacement cloud of key parts showedthe key parts’design meet the requirements.
