Soilless Culture is a new type of planting that developed in the 1940s. This method was used on military purposes in the early. Entering the 21st century, the facilities of soilless cultivation had changed to complex which from plastic greenhouse evolved into vertical farm. The cultivation device developed from large to three-dimensional, miniaturization and modular. In recent years, the balcony planting, as one of the important ways to improve the urban ecological environment got more and more attention at home and abroad. This subject focus on the inner-house planting system design with soilless culture. Using the SAPAD model to analysis planting behavior process, connotations and operation path which is regarded the inner-house planting behavior as a symbol system. Through analyzing behavior-meaning-products, establish a user-centered product construction strategy, to realize product innovation. This case study using interviews, field survey, data analysis and system construction method. Firstly, observe the user’s balcony planting activities, combined with interviews and genotyping that could find out significance of planting activities. Secondly, analyzing the user behavior of six layers of meaning (namely, language structure layer, experience the physical layer, semantic, pragmatic layer and social significance). Finally, through the analysis of the meaning and content of mapping, the meaning of key content clustering find out the innovation opportunity to complete product construction.
