The disposal and utilization of animal manure, restricted by economic and energy conditions, especially under the circumstances of increasingly strict environmental requirements day by day, isa common problem that all intensive livestock farms are facing. Composting technology is a safe, effective and economic method of disposal. Cow manure can be used as cow’s bedding material after pathogenic microorganisms were killed and reach stabilization and harmless by composting and can also be used as organic fertilizer after deep fermentation, further corruption and mineralization applied to surrounding farmland to realize resource utilization of animal feces. In the advanced waste treatment technology that has been introduced to china, compost is always an important link. Due to the cold climate and long winter in Inner Mongolia, it’s hard for the temperature of cow manure compost increasing in a short time, which slows cellulose degradation thus affecting composting process and fermentation cycle. Therefore, developing compound starter cultures at low temperature on the basis of screening efficient cellulose-degrading bacteria is very necessary. In this study, samples in large-scaled windrow composting from Yili pasture were collected at the time of 0,3rd,4th,7th,14th,21st,28th day and the day when compost starts to determine temperature, moisture content, pH, germination index and the enumeration of E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus and salmonella. Results indicate that the above three kinds of pathogenic bacteria can’t be detected on the fourth day and afterwards. As the extension of composting time, temperature will rise first and fall later, moisture content will gradually reduce, GI value will rise by degrees and pH keeps rising and falling.6 strains of cold-adapted cellulose-decomposing microorganisms with high enzyme activity were screened out from the first three samples in cow manure after mixture, enrichment, isolation, purification, Congo red stain and temperature control. There are 2 strains of bacterial,1 strain of actinomycetes and 1 strain of fungi. Those above-mentioned microbes have no antagonistic effect for each other. Mixing them as compound microbial reagent added to cow manure compost can raise the compost temperature and shorten the composting process.
