Transplanting of vegetable has a lot of advantages compared to traditional sowing planting,such as reducing the costs, easy to automatic planting, helping vegetable surviving from insectsduring their germination time. Also transition time can be shortened and yield can be increased.In addition, labor intensity can be reduced, labor efficiency can be increased, the quality ofoperations can be improved if vegetable transplanting technology is used. The developingdirection of vegetable transplanting is automatic vegetable transplanting, which can reduceintensity work and increase efficiency. The seedling pick-up mechanism is the most importantpart in the total automatic vegetable transplanting machine. It is the key factor which can affectthe performance of the automatic vegetable transplanting machine. Therefore, the research ofseedling pick-up mechanism has very huge significance to the development of agricultureautomatic transplanting machine.The research of this paper is as follows:(1) The work object of seedling pick-up, such as the character of vegetable seedling, wasanalyzed. Aiming at the existing rotary seedling pick-up mechanism improved design wasfinished. A new non-uniform gear mechanism was designed, it replaced the lock-up mechanismused in the existing seedling pick-up mechanism. On account of this a new seedling pick-upmechanism was designed. The works was elaborated, and the kinematics model was set up viaanalyzing the characteristics of seedling and performance of working mechanism.(2) Software which was used to do locus parameter optimization of pick-up seedlingmechanism was developed. By this software the effects caused to pick-up seedling locus byevery gear parameter and structural parameter can be noticed. Finally, a group parameters wereachieved which can meet the design requirements.(3) The calculation method of the incomplete non-circular gear profile point which wasapplied in intermittent non-uniform transmission gear mechanism was elaborated in detail. Andsoftware was developed for calculating its tooth profile points precisely. (4) Whole structure design of pick-up seedling mechanism, pick-up seedling arms and thedrive part was finished after analyzing the claws of existing pick-up seedling mechanism. Theimproved design of several key parts,besides, the whole structure design was carried out,device of eliminate backlash and pick-up seedling drawbacks included.(5)Three-dimensional entity model was built up based on UG7.5. Also the virtualprototype was tested based on ADAMS. Feasibility and superiority of the new pick–up seedlingmechanism was proved by analyzing the pick-up seedling locus, velocity curve of pick-upseedling arm cusp and force curve of sun gear, etc.(6)The prototype of pick-up seedling mechanism was manufactured. And pick-up seedlingtest was finished.Via the pick-up seedling test, the feasibility, reliability and superiority of thepick-up seedling mechanism was confirmed definitely.
