U The planting test results of the early maturing Upland Cotton Area in southern Xinjiang from2003to2012are researched by using multivariate statistical analysis method, the analysis results are as follows:I. The region in southern Xinjiang is suitable for growing high-quality cotton with whole growthperiod of135days, which possess characteristics in terms of80cm tall,>42.0%lint, boll about5.5gram inweight, more than30mm on average half the length,>30.0cN.tex–1specific strength,3.7~4.2incompatible micronaire, high resistance to blight, and high resistant to verticillium wilt.Ⅱ. The correlation analysis between the quality and quantity of lint and main agronomic was made. There was significant correlation between lint yield and some lint characteristics such as fiber yield, andspecific strength. Furthermore, lint yield was associated with some lint characteristics such as fiber length, incompatible micronaire, and spinning uniform index. It can properly coordinate the contradiction betweenthe quality and yield, achieve the synchronization improvement both fiber quality and yield. There wassignificant correlation between fiber length and lint characteristics such as specific strength, uniformity, incompatible micronaire, and spinning index, which show that the specific strength and other than qualityindicators would be improved while improving of fiber length.Ⅲ. Through analysis of main characters of cotton using methods of coefficient correlation and pathanalysis, in order of most impacting on lint yield, it goes: boll number per, fiber yield, lint length, bollweight, branch number, specific strength, strong section, growth duration, plant height. From our analysisresults, it can be seen that the genetic correlation analysis results are inconsistent with the results of pathanalysis for some characters. Therefore, only by using these two methods in combination, the variouscharacters impact on lint yield can be clearly seen.Ⅳ. From the results of canonical correlation analysis on raising the yield of variety selection, it can beseen that the cotton seed possessed following features should be to choose: much boll number per, highfiber yield, more moderate growth period, single boll weight, more moderate plant height, and high lintyield. In the combination of yield and quality traits, the seed cotton yield and fiber length can be improvedsimultaneously.Ⅴ. From analysis results of methods principal component analysis and cluster analysis, it can be seenthe following conclusions:(i) in the process of breeding, first, moderate growth period should be chosen.Second, other characters of cotton should be chosen such as higher yield of ginned cotton per mu, higherfiber quality, and strong disease resistance. Selection but also should not be too sedulous pursuit, should bemoderate as well.(ii) theclustering analysis results: when the threshold of genetic distance is1.18, theselected materials for experiment are divided into seven categories. In breeding experiments, the parent’sbest selection comes from different groups of species since there are significant differences among differentgroups. Thus, the blindnesswould be reducedin breeding operations.
