Carposina sasakii Matsmura and Grapholita molesta (Busck) are two species of moth which made serious loss in the orchards of northern of China, so the outcome and quality fruits were reduced seriously of their infeststion. Furthermore, the erfective control meatures are not available now. Up to date, many publications about their biology, ecology and control meatures were published in the past dacades ,, but study on chromosomes of these insect are scanty. We used the larvae and adult gonad Carposina sasakii Matsmura and Grapholita molesta (Busck) as materials, and used the improved squash methods to study the behaviors of chromosomes in cell division and karyotype of Carposina sasakii and Grapholita molesta. We expected these would lay a foundation for further study on their genetic control, the drug mechanism resistance and species differentiation. The conclusions were as followed:1. We improved the squash methods of chromosome studies for small lepidopteran insect, especially for Carposina sasakii and Grapholita molesta.2. The female and male of Carposina sasakii Matsmura diploid chromosome numbers were 2n=62. Sister chromatids could be observed lying alongside in parallel in mitotic early metaphase. The chromosomes also had some point of junction of chromatids, but did not appear primary contriction. In meiotic I, beads shaped chromosomes should be displayed in leptotene meiotic I; 31 pairs of synaptonemal complexes also could be found in pachytene; the homologues showed "O"、"∝"、"X"structure In diakinesis of spermatospore; chromosomes were consentrated to double hemispherical or dumb-bell configuration in metaphase I. In pachytene karyotype of the SC, the chromosomes displayed that the relative length of 1st (4.42) bivalent and 31st (1.70) was more than 2, and the difference of relative length of two adjacent SC was not more than 9% between 7th to 26th.3. The diploid chromosome numbers of Grapholita molesta (Busck) were 2n=62, and did not display primary contriction. During metaphase I, synaptonemal complexes were visible in pachytene and bivalents crossed were found in diakinesis. In pachytene karyotype of the SC, the chromosomes showed that the relative length of 1st (4.66) bivalent and 31st (1.38) was more than...
