The growth character(standing tree and felled-wood), wood density, physical and mechanical properties and chemical constituents were analyzed for the superior provenances selection of 31-year-old Larix olgensis from 11 different provenances sited in Maoershan, Liangshui and Jiagedaqi. After the test of felled-wood samples got from these three sites, we analysis the data by SPSS 18.0 and DPS VI4.10 to estimate the variation coefficient, variance analysis, multiple comparison, principal component analysis, stability analysis and correlation study. To select superior building timber provenances and pulpwood provenances, we explored the adaptability and stability. The main research results are as follows:The results showed that there was rich variation in characters. The average variation coefficient of three sites of standing tree timber volume, impact toughness, the hardness of diametral plane, the hardness of tangential section, bending strength, the hardness of end surface is above 20%. The felled-wood DBH, cellulose content, lignin content, felled-wood tree height, hemicellulose content has small variation coefficient. The results showed that the differences of the most characters among families were significant. The differences of standing tree height, standing tree DBH, standing tree timber volume among families in three sites were significant, while The differences density, shrinkage rate, crushing strength parallel to grain, the hardness, bending strength, MOE, impact toughness among families in three sites were extremely significant. The differences of hemicellulose content among families in Maoershan were significant. The differences of felled-wood DBH, lignin content among families were extremely significant, while the differences of felled-wood timber volume, cellulose content among families in Liangshui were significant. The differences of hemicellulose content among families in Jiagedaqi were extremely significant.The correlation analysis among traits. The standing tree growth traits are insignificantly correlated with most mechanical properties. The correlation coefficient among standing tree timber volume and all drying shrinkage rate. The wood density is significantly or very significantly and positively correlated with most mechanical properties.The correlation among most mechanical properties is significantly or very significantly and positively correlated. The hemicellulose content is significantly and positively correlated with lignin content in Maoershan.The felled-wood DBH, the felled-wood timber volume is very significantly and negatively correlated with lignin content, while hemicellulose content is very significantly and positively correlated with lignin content in Liangshui. Th cellulose content is significantly and positively correlated with lignin content in Jiagedaqi.Three provenances (Muling, Helong, Tianqiaoling) were selected as the superior building timber provenances.Except for air drying shrinkage rate and all drying shrinkage rate, other characters have excellent performance. The average standing tree height, standing tree DBH, standing tree timber volume, basic density, drying density, air drying density, crushing strength parallel to grain, the hardness of tangential section, he hardness of diametral plane, the hardness of end surface, bending strength, MOE, impact toughness of these three provenances were 18.97m,20.25cm,0.307m3,0.440g/cm3,0.537g/cm3,37.01MPa,3368.71N, 3514.99N,4813.98N,147.87MPa,14.97GPa,64.23 kJ/m2 respectively, they are 2.083%, 1.146%,3.085%,1.512%,1.886%,2.190%,4.735%,4.333%,1.453%,2.298%,2.106%, 0.656% more than average respectively.Three provenances (Jixi, Muling, Baidaoshan) were selected as the superior pulpwood provenances. The average felled-wood height, felled-wood DBH, felled wood timber volume, basic density, cellulose content, hemicellulose content, lignin content of these three provenances were 17.98m,21.21cm,0.310m3,0.440g/cm3,47.032%,10.92%,28.41%. The felled-wood DBH, felled-wood timber volume, basic density has obvious increasing effect, they were 1.53%、2.99%、1.84% more than average respectively.
