For reforming the traditional mode of production of rice, the development of water-saving rice is a new and effective way to improve the sustainable development of rice and have far-reaching significance to solve the problem of food security in the country. In this paper, a rice seeder under plastic film cultivation was designed to solve the problem of lacking of technology matures and suitable working machine for rice. This research realized the integration of machinery operation, it included laying pipe, covering film and sowing. Also the planter reduced the sectors during the traditional rice cultivation, such as seedling raising, planting, fertilizer spreader, drug prevention and so on. This invention provided the planting technique with technology support of new agricultural and mechanical equipment. The main contents and conclusions are summarized as follows :(1) Based on consult a great deal of literature and field research on the use of rice planter in Xinjiang, a 2BM-12 rice seeder under plastic film cultivation was designed.(2) A structure design and analysis was conducted on key parts of rice planter, such as mounting frame, film hole overbiting soil mechanism, dropper laying device and mulch laying device etc, to ensure that this machine could fulfill the required properties. This result could provide theoretical basis for three-dimensional modeling, structural design and optimization of the planter.(3) The virtual prototyping technology was applied to the design of the machine. The Solidworks software was used to design the rice seeder, which shorten the development cycle, lower production costs and improve efficiency. The contact pressure characteristic of rack when it was working was analyzed by Abaqus software and the region of stress concentration was found.(4) The performance optimization test of hill-drop planter was conducted and the marshalling sequence of different factors which had effect on the quality of planting was determined: the travelling speed, the rotate speed of the hill-drop planter and the volume of seed box. A good quality of planting was get when the travelling speed was 3.6 km/h, the rotate speed of the hill-drop planter was 15 r/min and the volume of seed box was 70 mm3. The qualified seeding rate(YIELD), pre-sowing rate and leakage sowing rate was 98.50%, 1.02% and 0.48%, respectively.(5) By the field verification test of the planter, it can be concluded that the key rice seeding apparatus developed can ensure the seeding stability and reliability, and at v = 3.6km/h, the planting quality is relatively good. The results are also consistent with those of the optimization scheme of bench tests.
