In this research, the 1 year old container seedling of different provenances of Cyclobalanopsis gilva and Cyclobalanopsis myrsinaefolia of Qingyuan provenance were studied, to learn the growth index, photosynthetic characteristics and other aspects, and to compare the differences of growth and physiological law among the provenances. The growth and physiological index were determinated during the seedling growth period. The seedling growth pattern was analysed to provide theoretical guidance for the cultivation of the container seedling. And the seedling growth, photosynthetic characteristics of the provenances were given comprehensive evaluation. The main conclusions are as follows:(1) Growth rhythm of C. gilva and C. myrsinaefolia are obviously different. The growth rhythm of C. myrsinaefolia was more close to the "S" curve of seedling growth. Totally, the fast-growing period of C. gilva is 2 months to 5 months after sowed, and that for C. myrsinaefolia is 2 months to 3 months after sowed. Therefore, seedling management should be combined with the growth rhythm and timely offer fertilizer.(2) Differences of photosynthetic characteristics for different provenances of C. were obvious. C. gilva of Hunan Shaoyang Xinning provenances displayed the largest net photosynthetic rate, stomatal conductance and transpiration rate compared with other provenances. Instantaneous water use efficiency of C. gilva was significantly higher than that of C. myrsinaefolia from Qingyuan. Which indicated C. gilva save more water and is more tolerance to drought compared to C. myrsinaefolia; Photosynthetic rate of C. myrsinaefolia from Qingyuan is small, while, it’s transpiration rate is higher, which may be related to its biological characteristics.(3) The chlorophyll content of C. gilva was larger than that of C. myrsinaefolia from Qingyuan, especially that of C. gilva from Shaoyang Xinning, Hunan provenance, the chlorophyll content of it was significantly greater than that of C. myrsinaefolia from Qingyuan.(4) Various provenances of C. Oerst hurt degree deepened with the time of drought stress accumulated. A variety of physiological traits of C. expressed specific rules as drought stress time prolonged: the SOD activity increased firstly and then decreased, soluble protein content decreased gradually, while, the accumulation of harmful products of MDA gradually increase and leaf electrolyte permeability increased gradually.(5) Examining physiology enzyme activity and accumulation of hazardous substances of C. Oerst, C. gilva from Hunan provenance is more drought tolerance, While, that of Ningbo and Qingyuan provenances of C. gilva and C.myrsinaefolia from Qqingyuan is relatively weaker.(6) Preliminary select 3 excellent provenances. Based on the evaluation on various aspects of the C. Oerst, C. gilva growth performance was better than that of C. gracilis, and especially for 3 provenances of Hunan(Jing County in Huaihua city, Xinning county in Shaoyang city, and Yongding District in Zhangjiajie city) were ranked the top three. Those provenances can be used as excellent source candidates.
